Matt Sayre founded the firm in 1969 when he opened his solo practice in Seattle's Columbia City District, succeeding the late James J. McBride whose practice there dated back to the early 1950's. A general practitioner, Matt provided a broad range of legal services to the community.
In 1982, Matt moved his practice from Seattle's Colombia City to the First Hill District. While there, he rose through the ranks to head the Seattle-King County Bar Association. Rediscovering its Southeast Seattle roots, the firm in June 2016 moved its offices to Mt. Baker Ridge, atop the I-90 tunnel, at 1417 31st Avenue South.
Jeff Sayre joined his father in 1993 after several years at Perkins Coie in the General Litigation Department, and the firm changed its name to Sayre Law Offices. The next year, a second office was opened on Vashon Island.
Karin Treadwell joined the firm in 1997, Eric Nelsen in 2001 and Christine Martin-Lord in 2001. Steve Sayre joined the practice in 2010 and heads up the firm's Olympia Branch office. All four attorneys had clerked for the firm while attending law school.
